Jersey Bombers team captures mini-tournament
Team members were John Leonessa, Roberto Catania, Dante and Joseph Civitello Abballe.
The program co-sponsored by the Recreation Committee and the Sons of Bergenfield Tri-Valley of Italy, also took a picnic to end the season.
Program participants selected Andrew Jones for the price most improved player Bocce, and gave recognition to Kevin Schultz for his trial.
John Scagliotti, Director Bergenfield's leisure, said he was pleased with the number of new players involved in the program.
He complimented John Leonessa volunteers and the Department of Public Works for the maintenance of bocce courts in the John A. Grove Aversa at Veterans Memorial Park.
He also acknowledged former alderman Aversa new grant money to plant flowers section fall into the grove park.
Joe Scalora, co-director of the League Bocce Bergenfield, announced that the 12th Annual Petanque Tournament Cecchino Carlo will take place Sunday, Oct. 16, with a rain date of October 23.

There is no fee to register for the tournament, but each player is invited to two cans of food for the pantry to help needy families.
